The National Restaurant Association issued the following statement of support for the House passage of H.R. 2575 'Save American Workers Act' that would reinstate the historic definition of a full-time work week to 40 hours:

“The National Restaurant Association is pleased that today the House passed the bipartisan legislation, H.R. 2575, the ‘Save American Workers Act’. We appreciate Congressman Young’s leadership in bringing representatives from both sides of the aisle together to help reinstate the historic definition of a full-time work week from 30 hours to 40 hours. We thank Congressman Lipinski for his leadership and support on this issue as well. The restaurant and foodservice industries are attractive to millions of Americans nationwide looking for flexible work schedules. Setting an artificially low, bright line as to who is considered full-time and who is considered part-time will force employers to limit that flexibility. Raising the law’s definition of full-time employee status will help restaurant and foodservice operators avoid any unnecessary disruptions to employees’ wages and hours, and would provide significant relief. We look forward to continuing our work with Congress to address practical problems with implementation of the health care law for main street businesses and urge the Senate to move this legislation forward.”
