...One of several pertinent topics that were covered during the event was the survival of the recession. No doubt this was of great interest to any participant in the Restaurant industry.

Exhibitors were supportive of the show and numbered around 550, offering all kinds of products, services and advice.

It also became the place of opportunity for Carly Fiorina the present Challenger (Republican) for the U.S. senates seat (presently held by Barbara Boxer) to ask for the board's endorsement. It remains to be seen what the answer will be.

One very important issue that was tackled during this years show relating to the California restaurant industry, was a requirement that all individuals who have the responsibility of handling food much obtain a certificate, that would indicate a food level safety training level. At present only one employee is required to have a food handling certificate. If new legislation were passed then it would mean anyone involved in the handling, storing, service and preparation of food would have to have a certificate to do so.

Perhaps if this legislation comes into effect other States may follow the lead.

Conventions as successful as this one are good for the Restaurant business, and are critically important in order to keep all those involved in this industry up to date and current. This is particularly important when the economy is taking such a toll on the industry as a whole.
