Shipley Donuts Signs 15-Unit Metro Detroit Development Agreement
Shipley Donuts will enter Michigan through a 15-unit franchise development agreement with Hole Lotta Dough, LLC, covering Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties in Metro Detroit.
The first shop is targeted to open in late Q1 2027. Three additional shops are planned to open annually over the next four years, for a total of 15 stores over a five-year development period.
Hole Lotta Dough is based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Members of its leadership team grew up in Houston and have more than 20 years of experience in Metro Detroit’s gas-and-convenience-store industry. The group is Shipley Donuts’ first franchise partner in Michigan.
The planned Michigan locations will offer donuts, kolaches and coffee. Each shop includes a working bakery, with bakers arriving at 3 a.m. to prepare donuts and kolaches. Shipley Donuts’ Hot Glazed Guarantee provides warm glazed donuts until 10 a.m. daily.
The menu will include Texas kolaches, savory breakfast sandwiches made with ingredients such as sausage, egg, bacon, jalapeño, and cheese, wrapped in dough and baked. Coffee offerings will include Shift Starter hot drip coffee and espresso-based drinks, including the Classic Glazed Latte, available hot or iced.
Shipley Donuts was founded in Houston in 1936. Its signature glazed donut is cut into a hexagon shape before glazing.
The Michigan agreement follows Shipley Donuts’ announcement of a three-unit franchise agreement in Cincinnati, Ohio. Michigan is the company’s latest Midwest market expansion.
Shipley Donuts has more than 390 franchised and company-owned restaurants across 13 states.
