Freddy's to Open New Locations in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria
Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has announced plans to expand its presence in Canada with new locations in Ontario and British Columbia, following its initial openings in Winnipeg and Okotoks.
Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers plans to open new restaurants in Ontario and British Columbia, with targeted cities including Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria. This move follows the brand’s June entry into the Canadian market with its first location in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Winnipeg restaurant opened on June 3, 2025, under a master franchise agreement with Jim Werschler and Gregg Most of North 49 Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. It is the first of three planned restaurants in Winnipeg, developed by Steakburger North.
Freddy's opened its second Canadian location, and first in Western Canada, on September 30, 2025, in Okotoks, Alberta. The Alberta franchise owners have committed to opening two additional locations.
Freddy's Canadian restaurants feature steakburgers made with lean ground beef, shoestring fries, and frozen custard treats. The company stated that its expansion is in response to demand for its menu items in Canadian markets.
In the United States, Freddy's has grown to more than 580 locations and generated nearly US $1 billion in systemwide sales this year. The average unit volume is approaching US $2 million. In September 2025, Freddy's was acquired by investment firm Rhône.
Freddy's is seeking multi-unit franchise partners for development in major metropolitan and suburban markets in Canada, including Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria.
