A Cold Stone Creamery store is under construction in Plymouth, a Detroit suburb, and is projected to open this fall. Another Michigan location has been awarded and is in the early stages of development.
The development plan includes the Detroit metropolitan area. Blake Borwick, brand leader at Cold Stone Creamery, cited economic growth and investment in the region and said some customers travel significant distances to visit existing stores.
Kyle Welch, whose ownership group operates four Cold Stone Creamery locations in Michigan, cited development opportunities across the state, particularly in the Detroit metro area, as businesses, restaurants and residents invest in Michigan communities.
Cold Stone Creamery was included in Yelp’s 2026 Fastest-Growing Restaurant Brands list.
The company is seeking candidates for its Michigan expansion, including first-time franchisees and multi-unit operators. The initial franchise fee for a new traditional Cold Stone Creamery franchise is $27,000, according to the 2026 Cold Stone Creamery Franchise Disclosure Document.
