Yalla Mediterranean to Open Second Bay Area Location in Walnut Creek

Restaurant will Open Mid-March in Ygnacio Plaza; New Casual Restaurant Chain Plans Rapid California Expansion

Yalla Mediterranean Mediterranean Cuisine Operating Company, LLC, announced the upcoming opening of the Walnut Creek location of Yalla Mediterranean, a new fast-casual restaurant brand that offers fresh, healthy and flavorful Mediterranean fare prepared and presented in a casual and inviting setting. Yalla – meaning “Let’s go!” in several Mediterranean-area dialects – is a place for friends and family to gather to enjoy wholesome Mediterranean cuisine that’s not only fast, but also fresh and good for you.

Slated to open in mid-March, Yalla Walnut Creek will be located in the space of the former Daphne’s California Greek at 1813 Ygnacio Valley Road in the bustling Ygnacio Plaza, located across the street from Heather Farm Park and a block from John Muir Medical Center. Yalla Walnut Creek will be the second location for this new brand, which debuted in downtown Pleasant Hill, Calif. in December 2014. Over the course of the next two years, Mediterranean Cuisine Operating Company will also convert additional Daphne’s locations throughout California.

Providing a lively culinary experience from the moment you step inside, Yalla showcases an open-flame grill, rotisserie-style cooking, traditional Mediterranean spices, fresh ingredients and food cooked to order. The menu showcases enticing, bold flavors through a variety of pita wraps, skewers, salads, sides and desserts. In addition, Yalla’s offerings are perfect for those adhering to vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free diets, offering numerous salads, proteins and side options to provide a satisfying and nutritious meal.

“We’re very excited to bring Yalla to Walnut Creek,” said Michael Mitsoglou, vice president, new restaurant openings operations for Yalla. “Walnut Creek is a thriving suburban community and Ygnacio Plaza is a prime location serving both professionals and families. We’re confident that guests will love Yalla’s flavorful Mediterranean cuisine and the abundance of fresh and healthy side dishes.”

The menu is built around three core sections. Diners first select a style for their meal: pita wrap, salad or Yalla plate. Second, a protein is chosen: chicken, steak, kefta and salmon skewers, chicken shawarma, falafel or shalafel, a combination of shawarma and falafel. Then diners select three sides from a selection of seasonal salads such as Moroccan carrot salad, Turkish cabbage slaw, arugula and beet salad or fries to complete the meal. For a delicious finish, there’s house-made Greek frozen yogurt with topping choices such as chopped baklava drizzled with honey. A selection of local wines will be available by the glass as well as craft brews and seasonal house-crafted lemonades.

Focused on sustainability, Yalla is proud to serve responsibly raised meat and fish, cooked to order on an open-flame rotisserie grill, and always seasoned to perfection with an enticing blend of proprietary Mediterranean spices. Additionally, the restaurant uses locally-sourced products wherever possible, with food served on 100 percent certified compostable disposables.

Designed by Aria Group Architects, Inc., the 2,100 square foot space will embody modern Mediterranean sensibility amid a welcoming decor of blues and yellows, clean lines and rustic design touches, including reclaimed wood panels and Edison light fixtures. As lemons are a staple in Mediterranean cuisine, revered for their zest and clean acidity, Yalla will prominently feature artwork showcasing this vibrant citrus, along with a living lemon tree. An herb garden will adorn the wall near the entrance, underscoring Yalla’s commitment to fresh ingredients. In addition, the Walnut Creek location will feature ample outdoor patio seating, perfect for enjoying the California sunshine. Sleek teal metal chairs under large umbrellas and heat lamps will provide an inviting outdoor dining option.
