Industry Performance Comparatively Strong in September

September 2005 Industry Performance Indicators, IPI, revealed an increase in domestic air RPMs by 4.4 percent from September 2004 and international air RPMs increased 8.8 percent from twelve months earlier.

However, airline employment fell 3.2 percent against September 2004. Hotel/motel room revenue jumped 10.8 percent from one year ago driven by sharp increases on average daily rate (6.7%) and room demand (3.8%). Lodging jobs increased 1.5 percent during the same period. Gasoline station receipts increased nearly one third (32.7%) over a year ago, largely due to prices jump. Amtrak ridership was up 8.3 percent from September 2004.
