Yum! to cook new Pizza plan for India

The $28-billion Yum! Restaurants International, which owns the Pizza Hut and KFC brands, is revisiting its operating strategy for India, to keep pace with the fast growing food retail industry.

For the first time since it began operations in India in 1995, Yum!, is abandoning its strategy of working only through franchisees. The forthcoming expansion plans will involve setting up a mix of company-owned and franchisee outlets.

'We want to accelerate growth in India, which though currently small compared to countries like China, is a key growth market for us,' Sandeep Kohli, MD (Indian sub-continent), Yum! Restaurants International, told Times News Network .

Yum!'s first self-owned outlet, for KFC brand, is scheduled to begin operating in Hyderabad three weeks from now. It will involve an investment of Rs 1.5-2 crore.
