Jack in the Box scraps JBX Grill idea
Jack in the Box, citing high gas prices and a bite in sales of a premium sandwich, cut its fiscal fourth-quarter and 2005 forecasts and put the wrap on its upscale JBX Grill concept.
Jack in the Box said it will take a $2 million charge to convert its nine remaining fast-casual JBX outlets in Boise, Idaho, and Bakersfield back to hamburger stores. The company once considered opening several hundred of the JBX outlets, which featured edgy architecture and less emphasis on the company's clown mascot, Jack.
In addition, Jack in the Box said that a makeover of up to 150 of its hamburger restaurants - which is part of a longtime strategic plan to take the company to the national level with new stores - will cut into earnings in the next fiscal year.
