Donuts, ice cream on the block
Hicks, Muse leads the buyout firm pack eyeing Pernod's Dunkin' Brands
Private equity firm Hicks, Muse, Tate, & Furst Inc. is among the buyout firms interested in acquiring Dunkin' Brands from French drinks group Pernod, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Hicks, Muse is one of several private equity firms lining up to bid for the fast-food chains, which Pernod is close to putting up for sale, sources close to the process said on Tuesday.
Buyout firms Bain Capital LLC, Thomas H. Lee Partners LP and The Carlyle Group are also pursuing Dunkin' Brands, sources said. Analysts have valued Dunkin' Brands -- the unit that operates coffee chain Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin Robbins ice cream shops and sandwich shops Togo's -- at more than $1.8 billion.
Dunkin' Brands and the private equity firms declined to comment.
