Economists expect job creation to pick up
U.S. employers will add jobs at a quicker pace at the end of 2004 and throughout 2005 than earlier expected, according to a survey of economic forecasters out Monday.
Companies will add workers at a 2% annual pace in the fourth quarter and at a slightly faster clip in 2005, say 38 forecasters who are members of the National Association for Business Economics. That's up from the 1.7% and 1.8% gains that were predicted for each quarter in a survey in May.
The forecast is equivalent to nearly 220,000 jobs added each month in 2005, good news for an economy that has struggled to create a steady stream of jobs in the past few years.
