KFC to focus on fried products, roasted menu flops

Fast-food chain KFC will focus most of its advertising and new product initiatives on its signature fried chicken after a line of roasted entrees flopped, its parent company said on Wednesday.

Yum Brands Inc. (NYSE:YUM), which has been trying to revive sluggish sales trends at KFC, earlier this year rolled out new "Oven-Roasted" menu items in a bid to keep up with rival fast-food chains in capturing the attention of increasingly health-conscious U.S. consumers.

But Yum Chairman and Chief Executive David Novak said the roasted chicken strips had not struck a chord with consumers in the way that McDonald's Corp.'s (NYSE:MCD) new salads have.
