  • Brueggers Bruegger's Introduces Carb-Friendly Wraps in Wisconsin; Nationwide Rollout to Follow

As its latest effort to offer customers healthy dining choices, Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. announced today the introduction of carb-friendly sandwich wraps to its newly expanded menu. Based on customer feedback and test results, the company plans to roll out the wraps to corporate-owned bakeries by early April 2004.

Bruegger's debuted the carb-friendly wraps in Wisconsin at bakeries located in Madison, Whitefish Bay, Wauwatosa and Oconomowoc. Bruegger's is now offering two carb-friendly wrap choices, a Supreme Club Wrap and a Radishy Roast Beef Wrap. The Supreme Club Wrap totals 11 grams Net Carbs and the Radishy Roast Beef Wrap totals 13 grams Net Carbs. The wrap itself is a 10-inch wheat gluten wrap with 8 grams Net Carbs.

"Going lower carb is a huge step for Bruegger's, since our company is known for hearty authentic bagels," said James J. Greco, chief executive officer, Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. "But, today people want choice and adding low-carb products to our menu, in addition to our new salads, offers Bruegger's customers another healthy dining option."

As part of it's new, expanded menu launched in November 2003, Bruegger's bakeries are currently providing customers with healthy dining choices featuring fresh made salads, soups and lean meats.

"We'll always make authentic bagels, but going forward, we're going to present our customers with an array of choices," Greco added. "Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not about dieting, but rather following healthy eating and exercise guidelines for life. Bruegger's hopes that it can make it easier by offering healthy food options."

Bruegger's bagels are baked daily and are made from fresh dough that's never frozen. Kettle boiled before they're baked, Bruegger's bagels are baked on a stone-hearth to give them an authentic crunchy crust on the outside and a dense, chewy texture on the inside. Most Bruegger's locations feature viewing areas where customers can see how the bagels are made.

In addition to fresh hot bagels, Bruegger's also serves unique coffee blends, specialty sandwiches and salads, deli-style sandwiches, bagel and egg sandwiches, soups, desserts, and original cream cheese in an assortment of flavors.
