Avery will be responsible for management of the Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and Cheeseburger In Paradise concepts. Allen will continue to manage the Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar and Roy's concepts and will take on the additional responsibility of managing the development of the Paul Lee's Chinese Kitchen concept.
Avery started with the Company in 1989, and since 1997 has been President of the Outback Steakhouse concept. In making the announcement, Chris Sullivan, the Company's Chairman and C.E.O., said, "Paul has done a spectacular job leading Outback Steakhouse and we are confident that he will build upon that success as he works with the concept Presidents of these other brands." Ben Novello, currently the Vice President of Operations for Outback Steakhouse, will become the President of the Outback concept.
Allen came to the Company in 1999 as President and co-founder of the Fleming's concept. In 2002, he took on responsibility for management of the Roy's concept and will now add oversight of the Company's recently announced joint venture to develop Paul Lee's Chinese Kitchen to his responsibilities. All three of these businesses will continue to be headquartered on the west coast. Prior to undertaking his work at Fleming's, Allen was C.E.O. of la Madeleine French Bakery and Cafe.
Sullivan also said that Bob Basham, Outback's co-founder and current Chief Operating Officer, will continue to oversee the development of certain new concepts and serve as an advisor to Avery. Sullivan will keep his current responsibilities.
