Atlanta-based Tropical Smoothie Café has announced plans to develop as many as 40 locations in the Atlanta metropolitan area in coming years.

In the Atlanta market, the 385-unit brand operates a company-owned café on Mount Vernon Highway in Atlanta and opened its first franchise location in Conyers, Georgia, this year. A third location is slated to open this fall on Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, which will be owned by franchise partner Scott Temme. The local Atlanta expansion is part of the brand’s overall growth strategy to have 750 units nationwide by 2019.

“I’m eager to join the Tropical Smoothie Café team because I’ll be serving my neighbors food and smoothies that not only taste delicious but will also help them live life to the fullest,” said Temme. “The brand’s dual focus on fresh food and smoothies packed with fruits and veggies will fill a void in Atlanta, making owning a café a smart business decision.”

Tropical Smoothie Café is currently seeking franchise partners to develop up to 40 locations throughout the Atlanta area, including Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown, Highlands, Brookhaven, Sandy Springs, Vinings, Marietta, Alpharetta, College Park, among others. Restaurant and food industry experience, though preferred, is not required to open a Tropical Smoothie Café.

“Atlanta is primed for development because we have strong brand awareness here even though we don’t have a huge presence yet,” said Tropical Smoothie Café CEO Mike Rotondo. “In addition to being headquartered here, many residents know and like our brand because they have experienced Tropical Smoothie Café in nearby markets throughout the Southeast. Couple that recognition with the overwhelming demand for healthier, convenient food, and it makes perfect sense to expand here now.”

Tropical Smoothie Café serves fresh, light food, such as salads, wraps and sandwiches, as well as smoothies made with real fruits and vegetables. With its “better-for-you” menu, the franchise has capitalized on America’s healthier eating trend. This year, Tropical Smoothie Café expects to open 70 locations throughout the country.

By pairing made-to-order smoothies with innovative menu items, Tropical Smoothie Café appeals to a broad consumer base throughout all parts of the day. With system-wide revenue approximately split between smoothie and food purchases, the two-in-one business model has led to strong sales with average unit volumes recently exceeding $526,000.
