After opening three restaurants in the Denver area in five months, Tropical Smoothie Café plans to expand its presence in the greater Denver area by developing 25 locations in the coming years.

The franchise, known for its better-for-you food and smoothies, entered the Denver market in October 2013 when franchisees and area developers Kriss and Michelle Shriver opened a café in the Denver Tech Center in Greenwood Village, Colorado. In the following months, the pair opened two more locations in The Streets of Southglenn and Centennial Promenade in Centennial, Colorado.

“What they say about Coloradans is true: They live healthy and active lives,” said Kriss Shriver. “Naturally, there’s a huge demand for healthier food options in Denver and throughout the state, and Tropical Smoothie Café is poised to fulfill that need with fresh, light food and smoothies packed with real fruits and veggies.”

In addition to Denver, Tropical Smoothie Café is currently seeking franchise partners to develop another 15 locations throughout the state, including the following markets: Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, Boulder and other metropolitan areas. The company signed a franchise agreement this month for a new location in Ft. Collins with local entrepreneur Atul Patel and his sister Nimisha Patel, who owns two locations in Pennsylvania. Slated to open this fall, the Ft. Collins café will mark the fourth location in Colorado.

The regional expansion comes on the heels of a successful year for the 380-unit franchise, which opened 40 restaurants nationwide last year. This year, the brand expects to open 55 cafés throughout the country.

By pairing made-to-order smoothies with innovative menu items, Tropical Smoothie Café appeals to a broad consumer base during all dayparts. With system-wide revenue approximately split between smoothie and food purchases, the two-in-one business model has led to strong sales with average unit volumes in excess of $526,000.

Founded in 1999, Tropical Smoothie Café is a fast-casual restaurant concept whose franchise partners inspire healthy lifestyles in communities across the country. Catering to all day-parts, Tropical Smoothie Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, including smoothies, salads, wraps, sandwiches, flatbreads and more. The fast-growing franchise has 380 locations nationwide and has won numerous awards including: Entrepreneur 2014 Franchise 500; Nation’s Restaurant News 2013 Top 200; Tropical Smoothie Café is currently awarding franchises throughout the United States.
