    Washington-based ZIP'S DRIVE IN (founded 1953) has increased by 1 unit, from 35 to 36 (3% growth).  These quick serve burger restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Locations seat about 30.  Trading areas are ID and WA. 

    BAHAMA BREEZE (Darden Restaurants) based in Orlando, FL has increased by 3 units, from 33 to 36 (9% growth) and expanded into NY.  These are family/casual Caribbean restaurants with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30+.  Catering is offered.  Locations are in DE, FL, GA, IL, MA, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, TN, VA and WA.

    Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

    Concepts with 20 units or less who grew by at least 2 units.

    Pennsylvania-based TONY LUKE'S (founded 1992) has increased by 2 units, from 17 to 19 (12% growth).  The restaurants are quick serve, specializing in cheesesteak sandwiches.  Per person price range is $4-$12+.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 80.  Catering, delivery and private party services are available.  Trading areas are MD, NJ, and PA.

    Mobile, AL-based WINTZELL'S OYSTER HOUSE (founded 1938) has increased by 2 units, from 11 to 13 (18% growth).  This family/casual seafood concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30+ per person check average.  Catering and banquet services are available.  All locations are in AL.  Franchising is now available.

    Massachusetts-based COMELLA'S HOMEMADE ITALIAN FOOD(founded 1988) has increased by 1 unit, from 10 to 11 (10% growth).  This is a family/casual concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $8-$20+, with seating for 50.  Catering and delivery options are available.  All locations are in MA.  We featured this concept on 10/29/13 (11% growth).

    Atlanta, GA-based MELLOW MUSHROOM (founded 1974) has increased by 7 units, from 167 to 174 (4% growth) and entered into UT.  This fast casual pizzeria is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person price range.  Locations serve beer and wine (some offer full bar).  The restaurants seat about 60.  Catering is available.  All locations are franchised and located in AL, AR, AZ, CO, DC, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MS, NC, NE, OH, SC, TN, TX, UT, and VA. We last wrote about this company on 11/13/13 (18% growth).

    Grapevine, TX-based COTTON PATCH CAFE (founded 1989) has increased by 1 unit, from 41 to 42 (2% growth) and entered into OK.  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $6-$15+, serving beer and wine.  Seating is for around 100.  Catering is available.  Trading areas are NM, OK, and TX.  Franchise opportunities are available.  We last wrote about this concept on 8/27/13 (5% growth).

    AROMA JOE'S based in Sanford, ME (founded 2000) has increased by 12 units, from 15 to 27 (80% growth).  These are quick serve coffee shops.  Locations are open during breakfast and lunch hours.  Per person check average is around $4-$12.  Locations are in ME and NH.  We reported on this concept on 7/17/13 (36% growth).

    SMASHBURGER of Denver, CO (founded 2007) has increased by 126 units, from 220 to 346 (57% growth) and expanded into PA.  These are fast casual burger restaurants with seating for around 70.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Beer and wine are served.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in AB, AL, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT and VA.  We wrote about this concept on 8/13/13 (36% growth).
