    Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators 

    Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

    Santa Monica, CA-based PINKBERRY (founded 2005) has increased by 50 units, from 202 to 252 (25% growth) and entered into AZ, DE, IN, MD, MN, MS, NJ, NV, PA, and UT.  These quick serve frozen yogurt shops are open for lunch and dinner hours, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Units seat about 50 and offer catering and online ordering services.  Delivery is available at select locations.  Stores are franchised and trade in AB, AL, AZ, BC, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MS, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, TX, UT, VA and 17 other countries worldwide.

    METZ ENTERPRISES of Dallas, PA (founded 1994) has increased by 5 units, for Marlow's Tavern, from 8 to 13 (63% growth) and by 1 unit for TGI Friday's, from 12 to 13 (8% growth).  At the same time the company decreased by 2 units, for Krispy Kreme, from 4 to 2 (50% decrease).  Marlow’s Tavern locations are family/casual with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30+.  Other concepts are Aqua Blue (1), Lucky's Sporthouse (1), Ruth's Chris (1) and Wolfgang Puck Express (1).  Overall company increase is from 28 to 32 (14% company growth).  Locations are in GA, NJ and PA.

    Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

    Concepts with 20 units or less who grew by at least 2 units.

    El Paso, TX-based WING DADDY'S SAUCE HOUSE (founded 2008) has increased by 2 units, from 7 to 9 (29% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, specializing in chicken wings.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with full bar and a $10-$30+ per person check average.  Catering is available.  All the restaurants are located in TX.

    Repeat Growers

    Concepts previously written about in the past 18 months. 

    New York, NY-based WOLFGANG'S STEAKHOUSE has increased by 1 unit, from 7 to 8 (14% growth).  This is an upscale steakhouse concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $15-$50+ per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for around 200.  Banquet services are available.  Trading areas are CA, FL, HI, NY, and Tokyo.  We last featured this concept on 6/11/13 (17% growth).

    Redding, CA-based BLACK BEAR DINER (founded 1995) has increased by 5 units, from 58 to 63 (9% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  The restaurants serve beer and wine and seat about 150.  Locations are franchised and trade in AZ, CA, CO, ID, NV, OR, UT, and WA.  We wrote about this concept on 10/2/12 (8% growth) and on 6/25/13 (5% growth).

    MENCHIE'S FROZEN YOGURT of Encino, CA (founded 2007) has increased by 90 units, from 376 to 466 (24% growth).  These are quick serve shops with seating for around 30.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Locations are in AB, AK, AL, AK, BC, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, HI, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MB, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NB, NC, NJ, NL, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, ON, OR, PA, PQ, SC, SK, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA and WI.  We reported on this concept on 10/8/13 (50% growth).
