The new restaurant, operated by franchisee FYP Investments Inc., is the seventh Carls Jr. location to open in British Columbia and the eighth in Canada
Carl’s Jr. brings its big, delicious burgers to another Canadian community – Abbotsford, British Columbia. The popular American fast-food chain known for its premium charbroiled 100 percent Black Angus beef Thickburgers® on Fresh Baked Buns, Made from Scratch Biscuits™ and Hand-Scooped Ice Cream Shakes opened its newest location this week. The new restaurant, operated by franchisee FYP Investments Inc., is the seventh Carl’s Jr. location to open in British Columbia and the eighth in Canada; it is part of CKE’s larger plan to expand the chain across Canada in the coming months and years. With a rapidly expanding international footprint, CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. operates Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s as one brand under two names acknowledging the regional heritage of both banners.
“Over the past three years, CKE’s system-wide international restaurant count increased by 53 percent,” said Ned Lyerly, CKE executive vice president of international. “With a total of eight franchise entities developing restaurants in Canada, the market will be a key contributor to the future growth of our international system. In the 2014 Index of Economic Freedom, Canada recently ranked as the sixth most economically free nation in the world (out of 178) and was one of only five countries to achieve the Index’s ‘economically free’ designation. We see Canada as a market with huge growth potential for Carl’s Jr.”
The Abbotsford restaurant, at 30770 Fraser Highway, Unit 5, is the third Carl’s Jr. franchise location in the greater Vancouver area operated by FYP, which plans 25 additional stores over the next five years in Chilliwack, Vancouver, Langley and Surrey. Operated by local businessman Billy Newell and his partners Chui Gracia, Ron Santolaya and Hernan Martinez, the FYP team sees tremendous opportunity for Carl’s Jr. across Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley and beyond.
“Fraser Valley is hungry for a bigger, better burger experience,” said Newell, CEO/managing partner at FYP Investments Inc. “Following the successful openings of our Vancouver and Chilliwack locations in the past year and a half, we’re looking forward to bringing Carl’s Jr.’s famous charbroiled burgers and best-in-class customer service farther south to Abbotsford.
“From the 100 percent Black Angus beef and innovative toppings on our Thickburgers to Made from Scratch Biscuits baked fresh inside the restaurant every morning, to special touches like partial tableside service, we’re offering our guests a uniquely premium fast-food dining experience that’s more akin to a sit-down restaurant,” Newell said. “And, soon we’ll be providing Carl’s Jr.’s one-of-a-kind, baked-daily, Fresh Baked Buns for your burger. No other fast-food restaurant can give you that!”
FYP is one of eight franchisees developing the Carl’s Jr. brand in Canada. In British Columbia, franchisees also include Jove Franchise Development, operating four restaurants, in Kelowna, Vernon, Kamloops and Penticton. In addition, I-5 Restaurants has a Carl’s Jr. open in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Other franchisees are expected to open locations this year in Edmonton and Toronto.
The recent entry into Canada is part of CKE’s aggressive franchise strategy to double its international presence within the next five years. For more information on franchise opportunities in Canada, please visit www.ckefranchise.com/canada.
