National Restaurant Association President and CEO Dawn Sweeney released the following statement tonight in response to President Obamas address to Congress:
“As the second-largest private-sector employer, America’s restaurants provide 13 million jobs nationwide,” Sweeney said. “Throughout the economic downturn, we have been one of the few industries that has continued growing, providing quality jobs that lead to fulfilling careers in our industry and others. In addition, restaurant growth creates jobs in a host of other industries, including finance, hospitality, real estate and construction. We are eager to build on that success, but our small business owners and larger restaurant operators continue to face many challenges.
“With greater regulatory certainty, consumer confidence, and more stable commodity and energy prices, our restaurant operators will be able to create even more jobs and provide greater opportunities to more Americans. We look forward to working with both the President and Congress in eliminating regulatory burdens and advancing pro-growth, job-creating measures that will help our businesses and the American economy.”
