Krispy Kreme Sweetens Chapel Hill with Neighborhood Shop

  • Krispy Kreme New Store Brings Hot Doughnuts, Coffee and Kool Kreme to the Heart of Tar Heel Country

    Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation will bring its legendary doughnuts and coffee to Chapel Hill with the opening of its newest Neighborhood Shop on Franklin Street beginning Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at 6 a.m.

    Residents in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and surrounding communities are invited to enjoy Krispy Kreme's specialty treats at its new 157 East Franklin Street location. Noting the strong ties between the community and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Krispy Kreme "Turns it Blue" by offering its guests sleek Carolina Blue couches and complimentary Wi-Fi service, making it a sweet meeting spot. The Neighborhood Shop, dedicated to commemorating the spirit of UNC-Chapel Hill, will include Krispy Kreme's classic offerings, such as its hot Original Glazed® doughnuts and other one-of-a-kind doughnut varieties, as well as its signature coffees, espresso drinks, Krispy Kreme Chillers® and iced beverages. The Tar Heel shop will also feature Krispy Kreme's Kool Kreme® soft serve menu of traditional cones, shakes and specialty doughnut sundaes, paired with a toppings bar.

    On opening day, Wednesday, August 25, the first customer in line at 6 a.m. will receive one free dozen Original Glazed doughnuts every week for one year. The next 99 customers will be given one free dozen Original Glazed doughnuts every month for one year. Commemorative Carolina Blue Krispy Kreme T-shirts will be awarded to the first 100 people in line.

    Krispy Kreme will also offer product sampling throughout opening day. Guests can enjoy one free Original Glazed doughnut from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., one free small cup of coffee from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and one free Kool Kreme soft serve cone from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration will continue throughout the year as customers who visit the shop on home game days during the UNC-Chapel Hill football and basketball seasons will be awarded one free doughnut of any variety if they come attired in the commemorative Carolina Blue Krispy Kreme T-shirt.

"We're proud to join the exciting establishments that make up Franklin Street, and are sure our Chapel Hill store will be a place for the community to get together and enjoy one-of-a-kind Krispy Kreme products while being part of the dynamic nature of Franklin Street."  

    A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. on August 25, and will feature the Chapel Hill store's general manager, Jonathan Wilder, as well as Krispy Kreme executives, including Cindy Bay and Steve Wymer, market manager for North Carolina. Dignitaries from the Town of Chapel Hill will also participate.
