    Growing Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).         

    City of Industry, CA-based YUM YUM DONUT SHOP (founded 1971) has increased by 2 units for the Winchell’s Donuts concept, from 97 to 99 (2% concept growth).  The company also operates 96 Yum Yum Donuts units.  Overall company increase was from 193 to 195 (1% growth).  The quick serve donut shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, with a price range of $2-$6 per person.  Units have limited seating and drive-thru service.  Stores are located in the states of CA, CO, KS, NE, NV, OK, and WA.  About half the locations are franchised.

    CRISTY'S PIZZA of Lancaster, OH (founded 1990) has increased by 1 unit for Cristy’s concept, from 7 to 8 (14% growth).  These are mostly take-out restaurants with limited seating.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is from $3-$8.  Catering and drive-thru are available.  There is a second company concept called Papa Boo’s (1 unit).  Overall company growth is from 8 to 9 (13% growth).  All locations are in OH.

    BOUNTY HUNTERS
     based in Las Vegas, NV has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 250.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  All locations are in NV.

    Tulsa, OK-based JAVA DAVE'S COFFEE HOUSE (founded 1988) has increased by 2 units, from 34 to 36 (6% growth) and entered into AR.  These quick serve coffee shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, with a $2-$6 per person check average.  Units seat about 60.  Online ordering is available.  Trading areas are AR, KS, MI, MO, NV, OK, TX, and VA.  New locations are planned for NC and WV later this year.

    CHICK-N-GRILL headquartered in Miami, FL (founded 1999) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  These are fast casual restaurants with seating for around 60.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Catering is available.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in FL.

    ISLANDS FINE BURGERS & DRINKS based in Carlsbad, CA (founded 1982) has increased by 1 unit, from 57 to 58 (2% growth).  These are family/casual burger restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  The check average is around $10-$30 per person.  Online ordering is available.  Locations are in AZ, CA, CO, HI and NV.

    Austin, TX-based CHUY'S COMIDA DELUXE (founded 1982) has increased by 2 units, from 16 to 18 (13% concept growth).  The company also operates Hula Hut (1) and Shady Grove (1).  Overall company increase was from 18 to 20 (11% growth).  These are family/casual Mexican restaurants, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $8-$20.  Locations have a full bar and seating for about 200.  Catering is available.  Trading areas are TN and TX.

    Prairie Du Sac, WI-based CULVER'S FROZEN CUSTARD & BUTTERBURGERS(founded 1984) has increased by 3 units, from 418 to 421 (1% growth).  These are fast casual restaurants, serving American food.  Per person check average is $3-$8.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Seating is for about 90.  All units are franchised and located in AZ, CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, OH, SD, TX, WI, and WY.  We last featured this concept on 1/19/10 (1% growth).

    ZIO'S ITALIAN KITCHEN of San Antonio, TX has increased by 1 unit, from 16 to 17 (6% growth).  These are family/casual Italian restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Catering is available.  Per person check average is around $10-$30.  Franchising is offered.  Locations are in CO, KS, MO, NM, OK and TX.  We reported on this concept on 12/22/09 (7% growth).

    Brooklyn Center, MN-based CARIBOU COFFEE (NASDAQ: CBOU; founded 1992) has increased by 8 units, from 519 to 527 (2% growth).  These are quick serve coffee shops, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $2-$6.  Stores have limited seating.  Catering is available.  Trading areas are AL, CO, DC, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NE, NV, OH, PA, SD, VA, WI, Asia and the Middle East.  Between 20% and 30% of the units are franchised.  We wrote about this company on 12/30/08 (2% growth) and on 6/2/09 (4% growth).

    FRED'S FISH FRY of San Antonio, TX has increased by 1 unit, from 17 to 18 (6% growth).  These are quick serve seafood restaurants with limited seating.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Franchising is offered.  All locations are in TX.  We reported on this concept on 7/21/09 (6% growth).

    Dallas, TX-based WHICH WICH (founded 2003) has increased by 13 units, from 96 to 109 (14% growth) and entered into AR, LA, and NY.  These are quick serve sandwich shops, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $3-$8.  Units seat about 50.  Catering service is available.  All locations are franchised and trade in the states of AR, AZ, CA, CO, GA, IA, IL, IN, LA, MO, MS, NC, NM, NY, OK, SC, TX, TX, and WA, with a Las Vegas, NV location scheduled to open soon.  We featured this concept 3 times in the past 18 months (12/2/08-19% growth, 3/31/09-13% growth, and 1/5/10-7% growth).  The company also appeared twice on our Top 20 Fastest Growing Concepts list (#3-May 2009 and #1-November 2009).
