Marvin Allen, Master Mixologist at the Hotel Monteleone’s famous Carousel Bar, has been honored as a Culinary Connoisseur by New Orleans City Business.
Allen and three others were recognized for their superior skills in bartending. This is the third year for the awards, which recognize the top 50 professionals in the culinary industry in New Orleans based on cuisine, business success and community involvement. Allen and his fellow honorees will be celebrated at a cocktail reception on April 20, 2010.
Marvin Allen has served as the Carousel Bar’s Head Mixologist since 2002. Prior to his work at the Monteleone, he worked at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza and Restaurant Zoe in the W Hotel. Allen has received numerous accolades including being named as 2004’s Bartender of the Year by New Orleans Magazine. Allen also came in second place in 2009’s Tales of the Cocktail Contest for his creation of the Southern Comfortini. Allen’s newest and most popular cocktail creations are the Krewe du Drew and the Dr. Who Dat, made in honor of the Saints Superbowl winning season.
“We are so thrilled to see Marvin recognized as a 2010 Culinary Connoisseur,” says Andrea Thornton, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hotel Monteleone. “Marvin is one of the reasons that the Carousel is so special. He has a great spirit, a fun personality and, of course, he makes fantastic drinks.”
The Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone is the only bar in New Orleans that revolves around the room. It overlooks famous Royal Street through large fan windows and has long been a favorite of both locals and tourists. Famous visitors to the Carousel include Michael Jordan, Dennis Quaid, Greg Allman and Sally Struthers.
