Pollo Campero, the world's largest Latin American chicken restaurant chain opened its 50th U.S. store in Boston last week. With its first location in New England, the chain achieved one of its strongest-ever opening week sales with customer lines continuing well past midnight on opening night and until 4:00 a.m. over the weekend.

'This strong response in New England demonstrates how much consumers everywhere truly love our chicken,' said Roberto Denegri, president and chief operating officer of Campero USA. 'With recent store openings in Miami, Phoenix, Atlanta and now Boston, we continue to be thankful for the exceptional response we receive from consumers across the country.'

Despite the economic challenges the country is facing, Pollo Campero customers continue to see value in the brand. 'Opening our fiftieth restaurant in the U.S. is a major milestone for the Pollo Campero brand,' said Jorge Armenteros, executive vice president of business development for Campero USA. 'It is yet another confirmation of the power of this unique brand and furthers our goal of finding the best franchise partners to continue our nationwide expansion.'

Jeff Ackerman, CEO for Chair 5 Restaurants, the franchisee for the New England store, was attracted to the brand's high sales volume and potential for strong investment returns and reputation for having a loyal customer following. 'The brand itself is a phenomenon,' said Ackerman. 'It's rare that you get to buy into a company like Pollo Campero with already significant brand equity and such strong customer loyalty. Our opening week results show this, and the Campero support has been invaluable.'

'In all my years in this business,' said Chair 5 Restaurants' Earl Howard, a 25-year restaurant veteran and VP-Operations, 'I've never experienced anything more memorable than what we have seen this past week. We've served over 100,000 pieces of chicken, over 2,000 pounds of Campero beans, and over 2,500 pounds of fries to thousands of customers. It has been remarkable.'

Founded in Guatemala in 1971 by the Gutiérrez family, Pollo Campero opened its first U.S. restaurant in 2002 to record-breaking sales. Since then, the company has opened 50 locations in the United States from California to New York and Florida and nearly 300 restaurants worldwide.
