Captain D's announced that David Head has been promoted to Chairman and CEO of the Nashville-based seafood restaurant chain. Head had been president and COO, overseeing all aspects of the business since joining the company in 2006.
Head will report directly to the Board of Directors. Nick Shepherd, Chairman and CEO of Captain D's parent company Sagittarius Brands, will be departing the business in February to become President and CEO of Carrollton, TX-based Carlson Restaurants Worldwide, Inc., parent company of TGI Friday's and Pick Up Stix.
In a statement, the Board of Directors said David Head's leadership has been instrumental in the chain's recent achievements including building guest loyalty, executing an effective reimaging campaign, introducing an award-winning revamped menu and successfully managing operating costs in the face of unprecedented market pressures.
Prior to being named Captain D's President, Head was President and CEO of Romacorp, parent of the Tony Roma's restaurant chain, where he led a major financial restructuring and concept revitalization over a three year period.
"I'm proud and honored to be leading the Captain D's brand and executing our vision of being America's favorite everyday seafood destination," said David Head.
Head, who is experienced on both the franchisee and franchisor sides of the restaurant business, served as CEO at the former Houlihan's Restaurant group and held executive posts with Sizzler International. His experience also includes nearly 10 years as a successful franchise partner in the Applebee's and Red Robin systems. He got his start in 1974 as a busboy, and subsequently rose through the operations ranks in the Marriott and WR Grace dinner house businesses.
Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Captain D's, LLC owns, operates and franchises some 580 restaurants in 26 of the United States, plus several military bases around the world.
