The 2008 Denny's Franchisee Association (DFA) convention was the largest in association history, hosting more than 1,000 attendees in Las Vegas on Nov. 2-5.
DFA Board Chair W. Craig Barber said, "This is the only gathering for the entire Denny's Brand and we believe it's absolutely vital to bring together as many franchise operators, suppliers and corporate representatives as possible. Our franchise owners and operators are motivated and unified in our commitment to increase sales in a challenging economy. Our convention theme was 'WINNING TOGETHER,' and we recognize it will take all of us, along with competent and collaborative corporate leadership, to succeed."
Guest speakers included Steve Farber, president of Extreme Leadership, Dennis Deaton, founder of Quma Learning Systems, and Margaret Morford, president of The HR Edge.
Along with a trade show, workshops, receptions and general sessions, the DFA convention included announcement of the top franchise operators for the Brand, including Robert Gaglardi of DenCan Restaurants, Inc. and Hossain Mohebbi of S&H Restaurant Co., Inc., representing operators with greater or fewer than 10 restaurants, respectively.
"For over 55 years, Denny's has adapted and evolved to enhance our guests' experience. The performance of our award winners demonstrates the continuing strength of our Brand and rightly deserves recognition," said Bob Langford, Chair of the DFA Innovation & Brand Development committee.
Bill Cox, Vice Chair of the DFA board and Chair of the DFA Marketing committee, said, "Our meeting this year was critical because it underlined our unity and our commitment to do whatever is necessary to ensure the long-term success of the Brand and our franchise community."
The Denny's Franchisee Association (DFA) was formed in 1997 to represent the interests of Denny's Brand franchisees. The DFA's membership is comprised of franchise owners and operators of over 80 percent of the Brand's 1,200+ franchised restaurants. The DFA has as its primary objectives to communicate with a united voice between DFA members and Denny's management for the purpose of enhancing profitability of DFA member restaurants, to promote communications among DFA members for the purpose of gathering information and concerns from individual franchisees and disseminating profitable business practices, and to negotiate prices and programs with third party suppliers for the benefit of DFA members. The DFA holds the annual convention for the Brand along with an Allied Partner Summit for key suppliers to the Brand.
