California Restaurant Association Comments on Assembly Bill 2572

We applaud the California Assembly for approving a responsible approach to the issue of mandated nutritional information disclosure at chain restaurants.

Assembly Bill 2572 will guarantee access to nutrition information that reflects the needs of consumers and allows restaurants to provide it in a way that respects their consumer's dining preferences.

The flexibility in how this information is provided to guests will alleviate an unnecessary burden while achieving the desired result - comprehensive nutrition information in every covered restaurant. Ensuring easy and convenient access to nutrition information is an important provision, especially for small chain restaurant owners and operators, who are already burdened by a sluggish economy and rising food costs.

'We look forward to working with the State Senate to improve upon this important legislation,' said Jot Condie, President of the California Restaurant Association. 'Chain restaurant owners that operate in different jurisdictions should not have to fear a patchwork of local regulations. If this legislation is going to cover chain restaurants throughout the state, we believe the provisions of this mandate should be uniform throughout the state.'

Once again, California has the opportunity to lead the nation on issues of national importance. The California Restaurant Association looks forward to working to ensure this legislation continues to progress for the restaurant customers of California.
