  • Restaurant News Resource On Thursday, February 21st at 7:00pm CST Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse will break the Guinness world record for the World's Largest Glass of Beer at the 10th Annual Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray.

Fans in every state and over 100 countries, from Cuba to Kazakhstan to Kuwait, will raise a Budweiser (Harry was known as the "Cub Fan, Bud Man") or other beverage to the late Hall of Fame baseball announcer on the 10th anniversary of his passing. Harry estimated that he consumed over 73,000 Budweiser's and 300,000 alcoholic beverages throughout his lifetime.

    100 YEARS -- 100 COUNTRIES -- 100 GALLONS OF BEER

Since this year marks 100 years since the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series (a professional sports team record achieved by only the Cubs), Harry's namesake restaurant has organized restaurants and bars to toast him in 100 countries, as well as every state in the United States, and is breaking the Guinness record for the World's Largest Glass of Beer with a 100 gallon glass. The 4 foot tall hexagonal glass with a handle and spigot (for serving) will weigh 1,000 pounds when full. It's anticipated that it will take approximately 20 minutes to fill the glass and will require nearly seven kegs of beer. When Harry's widow Dutchie Caray heard about the record breaking beer, she laughed saying "100 gallons? Is that all? Harry would have considered that an after dinner drink." Harry's will sell commemorative cups containing beer from the record-breaking glass for $5. All proceeds from these purchases will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of Cubs legend Ron Santo.

At 7:00pm at Harry Caray's in Chicago, Cub fans can hoist a Budweiser as Harry's widow Dutchie Caray leads the toast followed by a round of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" -- the song Harry was famous for singing between the top and bottom of the 7th inning of each game. As always, celebrities around the world will toast Harry's memory.
