Containing an Impressive Seven Grams of Fiber and Zero Saturated or Trans Fat, New Softwiches(TM) Are Delicious Way to Follow FDA Dietary Guidelines
Bruegger's Enterprises, Inc. is introducing a whole wheat Softwich(TM) recognized by the U.S. Whole Grains Council. Bigger and softer than a bagel, Bruegger's Softwiches (also available in plain, everything, sesame and asiago) are perfect for sandwiches, especially for larger-portion lunches. The company introduced the Softwich in 2002 and has seen its popularity soar, especially during lunch.
"Bruegger's is proud to set the bar when it comes to healthy and delicious menu items. Our salads, whole wheat bagels, and now whole wheat Softwiches, make it easy for our guests to follow the new recommended food pyramid," said Bruegger's CEO James Greco.
The new whole wheat Softwich contains an impressive seven grams of fiber and zero saturated or Trans fat grams as well as 13 grams of protein. Grains are good sources of complex carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals and are naturally low in fat, but grains that haven't been refined -- called whole grains -- are healthier, providing more fiber and important nutrients like selenium potassium and magnesium. A high-fiber diet can help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
In January 2005, the Food and Drug Administration established new dietary guidelines to help Americans make better food choices and live healthier lives. According to the recent FDA recommendation, people should consume three or more servings of whole-grain products per day, with the rest of the recommended grains coming from enriched grain products. In March 2005, Bruegger's introduced a whole wheat bagel, the first bagel to be recognized by the Whole Grains Council and today it is one of the most popular bagel varieties.
Two new whole wheat Softwich sandwiches will also debut on the Bruegger's menu:
-- Western Wheat -- egg, cheddar, bacon, green peppers, roasted red peppers, red onions and chipotle sauce on a whole wheat Softwich.
-- Turkey Apple Cran -- Turkey, cheddar, green apple, lettuce, red onions and cranberry mayonnaise on a whole wheat Softwich.
The whole wheat Softwich is available as a single purchase, as part of a dozen or part of a favorite sandwich. It is a healthy, tasty alternative to include in kids' lunchboxes.
