Firm's Patented Pasteurization Process Destroys Pathogens That Cause Food Borne Illness
National Pasteurized Eggs (NPE), producers of Davidson's Pasteurized Shell Eggs, today announced that it has significantly increased production in response to requests from U.S. and international retail and food service operators.
Davidson's Pasteurized Shell Eggs undergo a patented process to destroy harmful bacteria, including salmonella, making it safe for all egg preparations, whether cooked or raw. This same pasteurization process destroys viruses including Avian Influenza, also known as bird flu.
In the U.S., Davidson's eggs are utilized by many food service entities and restaurants to protect customers from salmonella. The firm posted a sales increase of more than 105 percent over the past two years. Users in the food service sector, which includes hotels, universities, fast food chains, hospitals, family and fine dining restaurants nationwide, now account for more than 70 percent of the firm's revenues.
In 2005, NPE began shipping its pasteurized shell eggs for the first time internationally to Hong Kong, and in the last 30 days, the company has fielded requests for information from food industry leaders in Japan, Turkey, Greece, Europe and South America.
At retail grocery stores, U.S. sales continue to climb. NPE increased retail distribution by 35 percent in the last quarter of 2005 alone, through high profile retailers such as A&P, Giant Eagle, Kash N Karry, Jewel, Publix, Safeway and WalMart Supercenters.
"Many restaurants have added this product as part of their risk management plan toward protecting against salmonella and now against bird flu," said Greg West, president of the firm. "Although we are proud of our safety attributes, we have many chefs and consumers that are even more pleased with the high quality and superior taste of our eggs."
West said that the firm's hens are fed an all vegetarian diet, giving the egg a rich corn-fed flavor.
"Since we destroy harmful bacteria that would otherwise diminish the taste over time, we maintain a superior taste and longer egg life, all while delivering the safety and incredible nutritional superiority of a shell egg," West said.
Davidson's Pasteurized Shell Eggs are becoming the safe choice for many consumers with growth in supermarkets and specialty food stores in 34 states, as well as for many food industry and healthcare leaders, including Carl's Jr. Restaurants, Quizno's, Kindred Healthcare, Avendra, Sodexho and Chili's Restaurants. Davidson's eggs are vegetarian; from hens fed a vegetarian diet containing no hormones, no antibiotics and no animal byproducts.
