Benihana Inc., operator of the nation's largest chain of Japanese theme and sushi restaurants, announced the acquisition of a teppanyaki restaurant in Tucson, AZ, increasing the number of Benihana teppanyaki restaurants to 57.
"This was an opportunistic purchase that we expect to be accretive in the current fiscal year," said Joel A. Schwartz, President and CEO.
Located on N. Oracle Road in Tucson, the four-year-old 8,300 square foot restaurant has 18 teppanyaki tables and a separate sushi bar. It will continue to be operated under the Sakura name, which will be changed once the new menu and other features are added, so as to bring it fully into the Benihana family of teppanyaki restaurants.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Benihana currently has two additional teppanyaki restaurants under development, in Miramar and Coral Gables, FL. The Company operates three other Asian theme restaurants RA Sushi, Haru and Doraku.
