The Travel Industry Association (TIA) today released its annual travel forecast indicating that an uncertain economic climate is leading American and global travelers to change their behaviors. Although leisure travel is stable, business travel is projected to decline and the United States is likely to be hit hard by a further decline in international arrivals.

A new survey of 2,231 U.S. adults reveals only 9 percent are planning a 'staycation,' or home-based vacation, as an alternative to a vacation they otherwise would have taken out of town during the next six months. This represents a significantly lower percentage than expected by industry analysts.

The July Travel Price Index, TPI, rose 3.4 percent compared to July 2006. Gasoline prices were down 3.0 percent from June and down 1.1 percent from one year ago.
